It’s definitely an intense journey , in which we enter when we decided to read this book, is a short book, but also has much more content than other books with more pages

The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world where there are a “creatures” or “something” that just by looking at them, people go mad to the point of killing others and commit suicide , it counts how the world came to be that way, and how people survive to it. The plot focuses on Malorie and her two children, and starts with them leaving the security of the house where they have lived for years, to go to a better place, but of course, is not so simple, since all this, they must do it totally blindly.

 

“In a world where you can’t open your eyes, isn’t a blindfold all you could ever hope for?”

What I liked most of this book, from the beginning, has been the plot, the idea that anyone can’t see outside without losing their minds, makes every situation of the book will be at life or death, is captivating from minute one , just you can not stop reading. The characters are at constant risk, and that makes instantly catch you and you really suffer with them.

Another thing I enjoyed, is the way it’s told, is in third person, and jumps from present to past from one chapter to another, so you can see everything that the characters passed until now.

 

“It’s better to face madness with a plan than to sit still and let it take you in pieces.”

I had a couple of problems with the other characters, especially with Don, I always knew he was an idiot. And I understand that the world has gone to hell and all, and that childhood who the children have it’s so different than usual but I felt uncomfortable, on more than one occasion, with the way Malorie treats her children, and although I can’t tell more, I think that ultimately I can see the fruit of what her has harvested in them. Still, I can’t help , but I feel bad for those kids.

It reminded me a little of “The Walking Dead”, is different not get me wrong, but as they are a group of people trying to survive in a destroyed world, taking difficult decisions, without food or supplies, it felt a little bit there and I liked a lot that, actually :).

The ending was pretty good, though, left me wishing for more.

I totally recommend it for those looking for a dark reading and quite creepy, because guys, this have really nasty scenes!. and more good stuff 😀
