Top 10 | 5 Stars-Worthy Contemporary Books 🌺

🌺 Hi, guys! I hope you’re having a beautiful day, full of good readings!! I want to know what you’re currently reading, actually, so let me know below in the comments.❤️ Today I’m super excited about this post because I haven’t brought you a recommendation list in a while, and I LOVE to do it, so I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. 🙌🏻 This time I’m focused on contemporary books either within the YA or Adult genre, specifically those that under my point of view are the most faithful to the contemporary genre itself, this means that I’ll leave out those titles that play a little with paranormal aspects or with magic because even when I LOVE those books, I wanted to focus on the genre as such, but of course, I’ll be bringing you more lists in the future, so that we can talk a little more about other genres and mixtures of them. 😍  The important thing and what I want to highlight from this list is that they’re, for me, all books that are worth the 5 stars, what do I mean by this? That they’re just WONDERFUL books, that either because they’re so unique due to their plot or characters, managed to touch my heart and stay with me throughout time. All these books mean a lot to me, they’ve managed to transmit me from happiness to sadness in the most real and even beautiful ways, that’s why I want to recommend them today with the hope that you may decide to read them at some point because I KNOW you’ll love them. 🥰 I also thought it fun to make a list with books that I think would be incredible for your beginning of the year, since they’re SUPER outstanding books for me, they would be incredible first readings for this 2021, cause what better way to start a new year that with books that can be 5 stars, right?  👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻
Thank you SO MUCH, my friends, for always being there for me even though my life is a bit crazy right now, you’re INCREDIBLE and I’ll not get tired of saying it 💕, I hope you enjoy today’s post a lot & that you decide to leave me all your thoughts, you know that I LOVE to chat with you! Now, without further ado, make yourself comfortable, I hope you have your favorite drink on hand because WE’RE STARTING!

“This is how we reveal ourselves: these tiny flashes of discomfort, the reactions we can’t hide.”

Three years ago, Tanner Scott’s family relocated from California to Utah, a move that nudged the bisexual teen temporarily back into the closet. Now, with one semester of high school to go, and no obstacles between him and out-of-state college freedom, Tanner plans to coast through his remaining classes and clear out of Utah.

But when his best friend Autumn dares him to take Provo High’s prestigious Seminar—where honor roll students diligently toil to draft a book in a semester—Tanner can’t resist going against his better judgment and having a go, if only to prove to Autumn how silly the whole thing is. Writing a book in four months sounds simple. Four months is an eternity.

It turns out, Tanner is only partly right: four months is a long time. After all, it takes only one second for him to notice Sebastian Brother, the Mormon prodigy who sold his own Seminar novel the year before and who now mentors the class. And it takes less than a month for Tanner to fall completely in love with him.

“Silence does not mean yes. No can be thought and felt but never said. It can be screamed silently on the inside. It can be in the wordless stone of a clenched fist, fingernails digging into palm. Three misfits come together to avenge the rape of a fellow classmate and in the process trigger a change in the misogynist culture at their high school transforming the lives of everyone around them in this searing and timely story.

Who are the Nowhere Girls?

They’re everygirl. But they start with just three:

Grace Salter is the new girl in town, whose family was run out of their former community after her southern Baptist preacher mom turned into a radical liberal after falling off a horse and bumping her head.

Rosina Suarez is the queer punk girl in a conservative Mexican immigrant family, who dreams of a life playing music instead of babysitting her gaggle of cousins and waitressing at her uncle’s restaurant.

Erin Delillo is obsessed with two things: marine biology and Star Trek: The Next Generation, but they aren’t enough to distract her from her suspicion that she may in fact be an android.

When Grace learns that Lucy Moynihan, the former occupant of her new home, was run out of town for having accused the popular guys at school of gang rape, she’s incensed that Lucy never had justice. For their own personal reasons, Rosina and Erin feel equally deeply about Lucy’s tragedy, so they form an anonymous group of girls at Prescott High to resist the sexist culture at their school, which includes boycotting sex of any kind with the male students.

Told in alternating perspectives, this groundbreaking novel is an indictment of rape culture and explores with bold honesty the deepest questions about teen girls and sexuality.

  5. Love seeing I’ll Give You The Sun on this list. That book really floored me. The messy relationship between the twins was beautifully developed.

I’ll admit I’ve not read a Taylor Jenkins Reid book, but I’ve seen nothing but praise for them. The Seven Husband’s of Evelyn Hugo, in particular, has my intrigued. So much hype for the book, I’m interested in seeing if it lives up to it.

One of my favourite contemporary novels has got to be I’ll Meet You There by Heather Demetrios. That book floored me with its imperfect characters, the exploration of PTSD in young soldiers, and a relationship that is tender and endearing. OTP material there.
