🌿 Hi guys! I hope you’re having a beautiful day, full of good readings, and of course, you’re safe and healthy.❤️ Today I returned with the second part of my atmospheric book recommendations, it made me SO SO happy to see that you liked the first top 5, so I’m super excited to bring you more amazing recs of books that, of course, I’ve read and enjoyed myself and feel that you could too. So here, as I said in the first post, I’ll be sharing books with wonderful & vivid settings, others somewhat creepy, but above all beautiful and 100% atmospheric. 👏🏻 The idea came out to me because I honestly LOVE this feature in books, it’s one of my favorite factors when I choose what to read and it always ends up having a great impact on my enjoyment, I just adore atmospheric books, when you feel that you can be in the place where the characters are and especially when you feel that you’re surrounded by that immensity or that landscape so vivid that you can almost touch, smell and feel everything around you. This is a feeling that I adore with my heart, so what I want with these posts is that you can also find a book that can make you feel all that and much more while enjoying the story and managing to fully commit yourself to the plot. 😍
I would love to know your opinion and your own recommendations for me, I’ll be adding MANY books to my TBR, so don’t hesitate to let me know everything in the comments. 🥰
Now without further ado, let’s begin, I’m super excited to share this very atmospheric top with you & I hope you enjoy. 🌿

Elizabeth Lavenza hasn’t had a proper meal in weeks. Her thin arms are covered with bruises from her “caregiver,” and she is on the verge of being thrown into the streets . . . until she is brought to the home of Victor Frankenstein, an unsmiling, solitary boy who has everything–except a friend.
Victor is her escape from misery. Elizabeth does everything she can to make herself indispensable–and it works. She is taken in by the Frankenstein family and rewarded with a warm bed, delicious food, and dresses of the finest silk. Soon she and Victor are inseparable.
But her new life comes at a price. As the years pass, Elizabeth’s survival depends on managing Victor’s dangerous temper and entertaining his every whim, no matter how depraved. Behind her blue eyes and sweet smile lies the calculating heart of a girl determined to stay alive no matter the cost . . . as the world she knows is consumed by darkness.

From the author of The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender comes a haunting maelstrom of magic and murder in the lush, moody Pacific Northwest.
When Rona Blackburn landed on Anathema Island more than a century ago, her otherworldly skills might have benefited friendlier neighbors. Guilt and fear instead led the island’s original eight settlers to burn “the witch” out of her home. So Rona cursed them. Fast-forward one hundred–some years: All Nor Blackburn wants is to live an unremarkable teenage life. She has reason to hope: First, her supernatural powers, if they can be called that, are unexceptional. Second, her love life is nonexistent, which means she might escape the other perverse side effect of the matriarch’s backfiring curse, too. But then a mysterious book comes out, promising to cast any spell for the right price. Nor senses a storm coming and is pretty sure she’ll be smack in the eye of it. In her second novel, Leslye Walton spins a dark, mesmerizing tale of a girl stumbling along the path toward self-acceptance and first love, even as the Price Guide’s malevolent author — Nor’s own mother — looms and threatens to strangle any hope for happiness.

Scarlett Dragna has never left the tiny island where she and her sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval—the faraway, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show—are over.
But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt-of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.
Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. Nevertheless she becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic.

Welcome to the cursed town of Sparrow…
Where, two centuries ago, three sisters were sentenced to death for witchery. Stones were tied to their ankles and they were drowned in the deep waters surrounding the town.
Now, for a brief time each summer, the sisters return, stealing the bodies of three weak-hearted girls so that they may seek their revenge, luring boys into the harbor and pulling them under.
Like many locals, seventeen-year-old Penny Talbot has accepted the fate of the town. But this year, on the eve of the sisters’ return, a boy named Bo Carter arrives; unaware of the danger he has just stumbled into.
Mistrust and lies spread quickly through the salty, rain-soaked streets. The townspeople turn against one another. Penny and Bo suspect each other of hiding secrets. And death comes swiftly to those who cannot resist the call of the sisters.
But only Penny sees what others cannot. And she will be forced to choose: save Bo, or save herself.

Besides the Goodreads link, that I always add in case you want to add the book to your TBR, this time I’ve also added a link to Book Depository, in case you want to order the book there. In that case, I want you to know that as an affiliate, I’ll receive a small percentage of your purchase and it would be REALLY helpful to me, to buy more books, and keep sharing with you ❤️
There is nothing I love more than an atmospheric book! I have been going back and forth on whether or not I want to read The Price Guide to the Occult, but knowing that it is atmospheric has sold me on it.

Almost all of these books are on my want-to-read list so, yes, I absolutely love atmospheric books!! I have read Caraval by Stephanie Garber some time ago and despite it’s mixed reviews and ratings it’s actually one of my all-time-favs. What I love about it is the fact that it is plot-driven instead of focusing too much on the characters. I need to read Finale, though… As always, a great list!! Thank you!

Wonderful list! (I’ve only read two of them, so I’ll have to pick up the others sometime!) I definitely agree that The Dark Descent is wonderfully dark and atmospheric. The audiobook made it even better. And Caraval has that wonderful carnivalesque atmosphere that I can’t help but love and be drawn to 😀 Another atmospheric read that I recommend is The Coldest Girl in Coldtown! The audiobook specifically. The narrator and the musical cues really bolstered the experience 😊

I loved Caraval – it had such an interesting and unique setting. I still need to read the other four books that you’ve mentioned here but I have all of them on my TBR. I loved And I Darken by Kiersten White so I seriously can’t wait to check out her Frankenstein retelling (and finish that series too) and The Wicked Deep was definitely a book that I was desperate for so I have no idea how I haven’t read it yet. I’ve heard wonderful things about Evelyn Hugo constantly so I seriously need to get it out of the library soon. And I actually have a secondhand copy of The Price Guide To The Occult that I somehow forgot about; I don’t know how as it’s another incredible sounding book.

[…] Sofii @ A Book. A Thought. is such a well-rounded blogger that honestly it’s hard to keep her in only three categories. The first one that I want to nominate her for is her book recommendations. She has really unique book recommendation posts that honestly I wouldn’t even have thought about! Like the one that I linked here is Atmospheric Book Recommendations. I didn’t even think to recommend books that were atmospheric?! And it looks like this is her second rec post for that topic, so it’s clear that she can give multiple recs for the same topic and it isn’t all the same books that everyone talks about.
