October TBR || Spooky & Witchy Reads + some ARCs || 2019 🌘

🌘 Hi guys! I hope you’re having a beautiful day! 💞 Today I bring you my TBR for the month of October, where I’ll tell you everything I’ll be reading during the month. Finally, the horror month has arrived and I’m super excited for it, I’ve been planning a lot and changing my TBR like crazy, so I hope to have put together a good stack and enjoy the majority of them. Despite having 2 ARCs that I really have to read in October, I’ll be focusing on those mysterious, spooky vibes or witchy books that I’ve had in my TBR for some time now, or that I just really want to read. This type of books where something magical happens or is located in a creepy place or is absolutely atmospheric, are my favorite readings for the whole year, but it feels even more special to read them during October since most of us will be reading the same things, so it will be fun to exchange opinions and know more about you own picks, I always LOVE to know! 😍 I also plan to watch some movies this month, I haven’t watched almost anything in September, and I really love watching movies so I’ll be looking for some horror to check out, so if you have any recommendations, let me know in the comments, that would be great! 🧡
I’m very very happy for the great success that my September has been in terms of reading, so this month I feel somewhat ambitious, I don’t want to exaggerate because we all know where that ends, but I do want to at least try to read those books that I’ve wanted to read since that came out and prioritize them. 👏🏻 I know this month is full of incredible read-a-thons, but I’ve decided to stay out of them this year because I’ve been participating in too many and I just want to read relaxedly what I’ve already chosen, no pressure, you know?. Don’t misunderstand me, though, I love read-a-thons and you know it, especially since they push you to read a little more and get out of your comfort zone, but this month I don’t feel like pressure, so I think it’s the best decision. Even so, I’ll be following all of you who participate, because I adore this kind of spooky read-a-thons and I’m already dying to know that you’ll be reading. 😊

 💫 In other news, as I do every year, I’ll be taking a two-week vacation and we’ll go on a trip with my boyfriend, I’ll be leaving on October 28 and I’ll be away for most of November. 🤗
As you know, this doesn’t mean that I’ll not be checking your posts from time to time, but it does mean that I’ll not be uploading content and maybe I don’t read much either. Personally, I feel that it’s something that I need to do for myself, my mind and my health, so it’s a mini-rest thing and then I’ll return as usual.
I’ll probably have my Wrap Up quite early in the month, but well, closer to the date I’ll let you know again. 💫

Lastly, and before I begin, I want to thank you as I do every month for the support and love that you give me with each “comment” and “like”, it means the world for me to have you and only a few days ago I received the notification that my traffic has grown, and I have no words, it really is a blessing and I thank the universe for having created the blog because the connections I’ve made with you all will be forever. I LOVE YOU and I hope you have the most wonderful month ❤️
Now without further ado let’s start, I have a lot to show you 🌘

 💘 || ARCs of The Month || 🤐

 🌘 Orpheus Girl by Brynne Rebele-Henry || In her debut novel, award-winning poet Brynne Rebele-Henry re-imagines the Orpheus myth as a love story between two teenage girls who are sent to conversion therapy after being caught together in an intimate moment.
Abandoned by a single mother she never knew, 16-year-old Raya—obsessed with ancient myths—lives with her grandmother in a small conservative Texas town. For years Raya has been forced to hide her feelings for her best friend and true love, Sarah. When the two are outed, they are sent to Friendly Saviors: a re-education camp meant to “fix” them and make them heterosexual. Upon arrival, Raya vows to assume the mythic role of Orpheus to escape Friendly Saviors, and to return to the world of the living with her love—only becoming more determined after she, Sarah, and Friendly Saviors’ other teen residents are subjected to abusive “treatments” by the staff.
In a haunting voice reminiscent of Sylvia Plath, with the contemporary lyricism of David Levithan, Brynne Rebele-Henry weaves a powerful inversion of the Orpheus myth informed by the real-world truths of conversion therapy. Orpheus Girl is a mythic story of dysfunctional families, trauma, first love, heartbreak, and ultimately, the fierce adolescent resilience that has the power to triumph over darkness and ignorance.

CW: There are scenes in this book that depict self-harm, homophobia, transphobia, and violence against LGBTQ characters.

 🌘 The Grace Year by Kim Liggett || A speculative thriller in the vein of The Handmaid’s Tale and The Power. Optioned by Universal and Elizabeth Banks to be a major motion picture!

Survive the year.
No one speaks of the grace year. It’s forbidden.
In Garner County, girls are told they have the power to lure grown men from their beds, to drive women mad with jealousy. They believe their very skin emits a powerful aphrodisiac, the potent essence of youth, of a girl on the edge of womanhood. That’s why they’re banished for their sixteenth year, to release their magic into the wild so they can return purified and ready for marriage. But not all of them will make it home alive.
Sixteen-year-old Tierney James dreams of a better life—a society that doesn’t pit friend against friend or woman against woman, but as her own grace year draws near, she quickly realizes that it’s not just the brutal elements they must fear. It’s not even the poachers in the woods, men who are waiting for a chance to grab one of the girls in order to make a fortune on the black market. Their greatest threat may very well be each other.
With sharp prose and gritty realism, The Grace Year examines the complex and sometimes twisted relationships between girls, the women they eventually become, and the difficult decisions they make in-between.

 🌙 || Spooky Stack || 🖤

🌘 The Girl from the Well (The Girl from the Well #1) by Rin Chupeco || You may think me biased, being murdered myself. But my state of being has nothing to do with the curiosity toward my own species, if we can be called such. We do not go gentle, as your poet encourages, into that good night.

A dead girl walks the streets.
She hunts murderers. Child killers, much like the man who threw her body down a well three hundred years ago.
And when a strange boy bearing stranger tattoos moves into the neighborhood so, she discovers, does something else. And soon both will be drawn into the world of eerie doll rituals and dark Shinto exorcisms that will take them from American suburbia to the remote valleys and shrines of Aomori, Japan.
Because the boy has a terrifying secret – one that would just kill to get out.

The Girl from the Well is A YA Horror novel pitched as “Dexter” meets “The Grudge”, based on a well-loved Japanese ghost story.

🌘 Here There Are Monsters by Amelinda Bérubé || The Blair Witch Project meets Imaginary Girls in this story of codependent sisterhood, the struggle to claim one’s own space, and the power of secrets
Sixteen-year-old Skye is done playing the knight in shining armor for her insufferable younger sister, Deirdre. Moving across the country seems like the perfect chance to start over.
In their isolated new neighborhood, Skye manages to fit in, but Deirdre withdraws from everyone, becoming fixated on the swampy woods behind their house and building monstrous sculptures out of sticks and bones.
Then Deirdre disappears.
And when something awful comes scratching at Skye’s window in the middle of the night, claiming she’s the only one who can save Deirdre, Skye knows she will stop at nothing to bring her sister home.

🌘 Wicked Saints (Something Dark and Holy #1) by Emily A. Duncan || A girl who can speak to gods must save her people without destroying herself.
A prince in danger must decide who to trust.
A boy with a monstrous secret waits in the wings.
Together, they must assassinate the king and stop the war.
In a centuries-long war where beauty and brutality meet, their three paths entwine in a shadowy world of spilled blood and mysterious saints, where a forbidden romance threatens to tip the scales between dark and light. Wicked Saints is the thrilling start to Emily A. Duncan’s devastatingly Gothic Something Dark and Holy trilogy..

 🌘 Serpent & Dove (Serpent & Dove #1) by Shelby Mahurin || Bound as one to love, honor, or burn.
Two years ago, Louise le Blanc fled her coven and took shelter in the city of Cesarine, forsaking all magic and living off whatever she could steal. There, witches like Lou are hunted. They are feared. And they are burned.
Sworn to the Church as a Chasseur, Reid Diggory has lived his life by one principle: thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. His path was never meant to cross with Lou’s, but a wicked stunt forces them into an impossible union—holy matrimony.
The war between witches and Church is an ancient one, and Lou’s most dangerous enemies bring a fate worse than fire. Unable to ignore her growing feelings, yet powerless to change what she is, a choice must be made.
And love makes fools of us all.

🌘 Wilder Girls by Rory Power || It’s been eighteen months since the Raxter School for Girls was put under quarantine. Since the Tox hit and pulled Hetty’s life out from under her.
It started slow. First the teachers died one by one. Then it began to infect the students, turning their bodies strange and foreign. Now, cut off from the rest of the world and left to fend for themselves on their island home, the girls don’t dare wander outside the school’s fence, where the Tox has made the woods wild and dangerous. They wait for the cure they were promised as the Tox seeps into everything.
But when Byatt goes missing, Hetty will do anything to find her, even if it means breaking quarantine and braving the horrors that lie beyond the fence. And when she does, Hetty learns that there’s more to their story, to their life at Raxter, than she could have ever thought true.
