🍀 Hi, my beautiful bookish friends!!, I hope you’re having a wonderful day and you’re enjoying all your readings. 💕 Today I bring you what would basically be my top 5 of those books that I’m most excited about and I want to read before the end of the year. I didn’t know how to put all my feelings in a title so this is more or less what I came up with lol.
We all know that our TBRs are basically an infinite stack of one million books that we intend to read luckily throughout our lives and sometimes can get a little out of control. Well, I’m trying to start prioritizing certain books and being a bit more organized. I think sometimes, and I guess this happens to all of us, I usually get very distracted by new releases and ARCs, and all those things, and then you forget a little about those books that you already have at your disposal to read or that you mentioned that you died for reading like yesterday, so well,  💫 I’m trying to control myself and try to follow a series of lists where I’ll prioritize 5 books to read for a certain period of time. This is a simple idea that I’m trying to follow and see if I can really read those books that I say I’ll read, and not just forget them completely every time a new one appears in front of me. 💫  All this sounds as if I had all under control, but no guys, don’t be fooled. 😂
In this particular top, I’ll mention 5 books that I’m dying to read before the end of the year and, for a change, I’ll really try to actually read them over the next few months. If I achieve that, then I’ll be very proud of myself, for sure, and I’ll also continue making these types of lists to prioritize certain readings and also to talk a little with you about this books, I would love to know what you think of them. 😍
I always think that everything sounds better explained in my mind, but I hope you have understood what I’m trying to do, I promise to do my best. I’ll read these 5 books and review them for you this year, it’s a fact, I’m doing it!!! 👏🏻
You have to tell me in the comments what is your top 5 priorities before the end of the year, I would love to know your list. And now, without further ado let’s start! 🍀

🍀 Blanca & Roja by Anna-Marie McLemore || The biggest lie of all is the story you think you already know.
The del Cisne girls have never just been sisters; they’re also rivals, Blanca as obedient and graceful as Roja is vicious and manipulative. They know that, because of a generations-old spell, their family is bound to a bevy of swans deep in the woods. They know that, one day, the swans will pull them into a dangerous game that will leave one of them a girl, and trap the other in the body of a swan.
But when two local boys become drawn into the game, the swans’ spell intertwines with the strange and unpredictable magic lacing the woods, and all four of their fates depend on facing truths that could either save or destroy them. Blanca & Roja is the captivating story of sisters, friendship, love, hatred, and the price we pay to protect our hearts.

💫 This book sounds SO magical and you know that I cannot resist myself a good book about sisters, it’s one of my favorite things, if the book has a brother/sisterhood bond, I feel that it always touches my heart because I’m very close to my brothers. I also have this book physically, so it’s crazy that I haven’t yet picked it up to read, I won it in a giveaway and that makes me so happy and grateful, I want to take the opportunity to thank the people who give giveaways, buy a book for someone else is a amazing gesture of love, I love that. 💞
Returning to this beautiful book, I’ve also heard the best things about it and many people I trust in have it as a favorite. I’ve also heard that the author’s writing style is poetic and beautiful, and I honestly don’t want to end the year without experiencing it myself.
Another point for which I DIE to read this book is that the author is Latin-American, like myself, and that means a lot to me, also the characters are Latin, and I always appreciate the representation 💫

🍀 The Tenth Girl by Sara Faring || Simmering in Patagonian myth, The Tenth Girl is a gothic psychological thriller with a haunting twist.
At the very southern tip of South America looms an isolated finishing school. Legend has it that the land will curse those who settle there. But for Mavi—a bold Buenos Aires native fleeing the military regime that took her mother—it offers an escape to a new life as a young teacher to Argentina’s elite girls.
Mavi tries to embrace the strangeness of the imposing house—despite warnings not to roam at night, threats from an enigmatic young man, and rumors of mysterious Others. But one of Mavi’s ten students is missing, and when students and teachers alike begin to behave as if possessed, the forces haunting this unholy cliff will no longer be ignored.
One of these spirits holds a secret that could unravel Mavi’s existence. In order to survive she must solve a cosmic mystery—and then fight for her life.

💫 A gothic psychological thriller with a haunting twist located in Argentina?, the question is: Where has this book been all my life?!
Why I want to read this book, I think it is super obvious, right? I’m Argentinian, so reading a book like this means the world to me, I’m very proud of the author and the repercussion she’s having with her work, I’m very pleased to know that so many people around the world are reading it and maybe learning a little more about my country, but beyond that … a book based on Patagonian myths, with so much suspense and with such creepy vibes, needs to be in my hands right now.
I hope to enjoy it, it would break my heart if I don’t 💫

🍀 King of Scars (Nikolai Duology #1) by Leigh Bardugo || Nikolai Lantsov has always had a gift for the impossible. No one knows what he endured in his country’s bloody civil war—and he intends to keep it that way. Now, as enemies gather at his weakened borders, the young king must find a way to refill Ravka’s coffers, forge new alliances, and stop a rising threat to the once-great Grisha Army.
Yet with every day a dark magic within him grows stronger, threatening to destroy all he has built. With the help of a young monk and a legendary Grisha Squaller, Nikolai will journey to the places in Ravka where the deepest magic survives to vanquish the terrible legacy inside him. He will risk everything to save his country and himself. But some secrets aren’t meant to stay buried—and some wounds aren’t meant to heal.

💫 I’m always recommending Leigh’s books to everyone, I just love how her mind works and what she’s capable of creating is simply magnificent for me. The Shadow & Bone trilogy is one of my favorite EVER, I also read The Six of Crows duology and enjoyed it very much. I feel that it’s always the characters that stand out in her stories, I LOVE ALL the whole cast of characters from the Grisha universe and obviously, Nikolai is one of them.
I’m dying to read it and at the same time, I confess that it scares me a little, maybe cause I’m afraid not going to love it as I hope or something, but the moment has come and I feel that I have to give it a chance since it’s a world that I love and are characters that I would love to read again. I have to stop putting excuses and just read it 💫

🍀 The Devouring Gray (The Devouring Gray #1) by Christine Lynn Herman || Branches and stones, daggers and bones,
They locked the Beast away.
After the death of her sister, seventeen-year-old Violet Saunders finds herself dragged to Four Paths, New York. Violet may be a newcomer, but she soon learns her mother isn’t: They belong to one of the revered founding families of the town, where stone bells hang above every doorway and danger lurks in the depths of the woods.
Justin Hawthorne’s bloodline has protected Four Paths for generations from the Gray—a lifeless dimension that imprisons a brutal monster. After Justin fails to inherit his family’s powers, his mother is determined to keep this humiliation a secret. But Justin can’t let go of the future he was promised and the town he swore to protect.
Ever since Harper Carlisle lost her hand to an accident that left her stranded in the Gray for days, she has vowed revenge on the person who abandoned her: Justin Hawthorne. There are ripples of dissent in Four Paths, and Harper seizes an opportunity to take down the Hawthornes and change her destiny-to what extent, even she doesn’t yet know.
The Gray is growing stronger every day, and its victims are piling up. When Violet accidentally unleashes the monster, all three must band together with the other Founders to unearth the dark truths behind their families’ abilities—before the Gray devours them all.

💫 I think this book is the kind of book I usually love, it’s mysterious and based on a group of friends and family secrets. Everything also happens in a small and mysterious town where there seems to be a creature living in the woods. It sounds just SO good, I also have a thing for atmospheric books, they’re my favorites and this one sounds very atmospheric so I hope it is. I understand that it doesn’t have good reviews, that makes me feel sad but it doesn’t take away the desire to read it, something tells me that I could enjoy it, I also have it in physical, so I’m trying to prioritize it 💫

🍀 Wilder Girls by Rory Power || It’s been eighteen months since the Raxter School for Girls was put under quarantine. Since the Tox hit and pulled Hetty’s life out from under her.
It started slow. First the teachers died one by one. Then it began to infect the students, turning their bodies strange and foreign. Now, cut off from the rest of the world and left to fend for themselves on their island home, the girls don’t dare wander outside the school’s fence, where the Tox has made the woods wild and dangerous. They wait for the cure they were promised as the Tox seeps into everything.
But when Byatt goes missing, Hetty will do anything to find her, even if it means breaking quarantine and braving the horrors that lie beyond the fence. And when she does, Hetty learns that there’s more to their story, to their life at Raxter, than she could have ever thought true.

💫 This is probably one of my most anticipated of this year and you can’t say it doesn’t sound amazing, right? This story takes place on an island (my jam) and is super whimsical and mysterious and also part of the story takes place in a boarding school, which is always interesting and I think, from reviews that I’ve read that the girls manifest a rarity in their bodies, and leaves and flowers come out of it, due to a virus called Tox, I think. It’s classified as horror which I love and also has queer characters. I’m hoping to see a lot of female power happening here and I hope has a captivating, atmospheric and unique plot, because it sounds like that. 💫

  1. I bought The Devouring Gray around the time it came out, and I really need to get to it at some point! Like soon (I say as if I don’t already have many books I’d like to get to “soon” haha) I’ve also heard so much about Wilder Girls, and the cover is truly gorgeous, and even if horror isn’t really my thing, I think I’d like to read it! ♥

  2. I have a few of those on my tbr and I already know I won’t be reading them before 2020. I tend to wait for the paperbacks which of course means that I generally have to wait a year or more for them to come out but at least I know what mass opinions are about some.

  3. I literally just finished Wilder Girls today and I loved it! It was what I hoped it would, dark, graphic and emotional and it was just such a great book!

  4. Recently I have been working through a number of old classics, such as Steinbeck’s “East of Eden” and Dostoevsky’s “The Brothers Karamazov.” Interestingly, both of these center around the relationship dynamic between brothers, although they are very different stories– I highly recommend them, especially if you like reading about complex family relationships!
As a writer, however, perhaps the most interesting thing I’ve noticed about the process of reading is how whatever I am currently reading (or have most recently read) influences the story I’m working on. This means you have to be pretty careful about what you’re ingesting while writing!
