The Pisces by Melissa Broder

32871394An original, imaginative, and hilarious debut novel about love, anxiety, and sea creatures, from the author of So Sad Today.

Lucy has been writing her dissertation about Sappho for thirteen years when she and Jamie break up. After she hits rock bottom in Phoenix, her Los Angeles-based sister insists Lucy housesit for the summer—her only tasks caring for a beloved diabetic dog and trying to learn to care for herself. Annika’s home is a gorgeous glass cube atop Venice Beach, but Lucy can find no peace from her misery and anxiety—not in her love addiction group therapy meetings, not in frequent Tinder meetups, not in Dominic the foxhound’s easy affection, not in ruminating on the ancient Greeks. Yet everything changes when Lucy becomes entranced by an eerily attractive swimmer one night while sitting alone on the beach rocks.

Whip-smart, neurotically funny, sexy, and above all, fearless, The Pisces is built on a premise both sirenic and incredibly real—what happens when you think love will save you but are afraid it might also kill you.

I just started with this book, which is part of my challenge where I’ll be Reading The Lowest & The Highest Rated Books On My TBR.
From now on, I can tell you that I don’t promise anything with this book, I can already notice that the main character is really annoying, so we’ll see how it goes. My goal is to try to read everything, but if I don’t feel it will be for me, I’ll put it down, anyway I want to talk with you about everything I feel about it. I’m feeling that it will be quick to read, which is good, so I hope it’s not as bad as everyone says, even though it’s probably not the brightest book lol

A Darker Shade of Magic (Shades of Magic #1) by V.E. Schwab

22055262Kell is one of the last Antari—magicians with a rare, coveted ability to travel between parallel Londons; Red, Grey, White, and, once upon a time, Black.

Kell was raised in Arnes—Red London—and officially serves the Maresh Empire as an ambassador, traveling between the frequent bloody regime changes in White London and the court of George III in the dullest of Londons, the one without any magic left to see.

Unofficially, Kell is a smuggler, servicing people willing to pay for even the smallest glimpses of a world they’ll never see. It’s a defiant hobby with dangerous consequences, which Kell is now seeing firsthand.

After an exchange goes awry, Kell escapes to Grey London and runs into Delilah Bard, a cut-purse with lofty aspirations. She first robs him, then saves him from a deadly enemy, and finally forces Kell to spirit her to another world for a proper adventure.

Now perilous magic is afoot, and treachery lurks at every turn. To save all of the worlds, they’ll first need to stay alive.

I’m going VERY slow through this book because I’m reading it together with my boyfriend when we both have time, so sometimes it’s a bit difficult to find the time, you know?, even though I can see that it’s a great book. I hope I can finish it this month *fingers crossed*

🍂 What did you finish recently reading? 🍂

Middlegame by Seanan McGuire

35965482Meet Roger. Skilled with words, languages come easily to him. He instinctively understands how the world works through the power of story.

Meet Dodger, his twin. Numbers are her world, her obsession, her everything. All she understands, she does so through the power of math.

Roger and Dodger aren’t exactly human, though they don’t realise it. They aren’t exactly gods, either. Not entirely. Not yet.

Meet Reed, skilled in the alchemical arts like his progenitor before him. Reed created Dodger and her brother. He’s not their father. Not quite. But he has a plan: to raise the twins to the highest power, to ascend with them and claim their authority as his own.

Godhood is attainable. Pray it isn’t attained.

|| Goodreads || My Review ||

This book is honestly SO INCREDIBLE. I know I just came up with my review about it, but OMG, I’m so excited that I’m happy to talk a little more about with you. I must say that I’m surprised not to see more people excited about its release which is in the next month because it’s one of the best books I’ve read this year so far. The pacing is a bit slow but that is all the negative that I can really say about it. The book follows twins created with a dark proposal through alchemy and they have an almost magical connection of forces they can’t understand, we follow them as they grow, from birth to 30 years old, and they’re perfectly created. The plot is very solid and informative, all this is brilliant and I highly recommend you read it, especially if you like or want to try Adult Fantasy. Luckily I’ll be buying this one once comes out because I want to own it forever and maybe read it again next year. It’s SO UNIQUE, so if you’ve never read a book like this so this is the perfect opportunity.

🍂 What do you think you’ll read next? 🍂

I’m not sure how to answer this one because I’ve been very doubtful about what to read next, so maybe I’ll focus on what I have to read now and then choose something completely new, out of my TBR, I’ve been reading big books lately and maybe I would like something shorter or maybe a contemporary so we’ll see, I also have my TBR Jar, which I don’t use often or maybe try a chapter and choose that way, but we’ll see
If I feel like continuing with my TBR then I’ll choose Ask Me Anything by Molly E. Lee, but we’ll see, I’ll keep you updated 💕

  1. A Darker Shade of Magic is so good! It’s my top read of 2018. I have just finished reading Truthwitch and I have already added the sequels to my wishlist because the public library does not have them. I’m currently reading This is Going to Hurt by Adam Key, a book about being a junior doctor!

  3. I finished A Darker Shade of Magic last month, but I didn’t love it quite as much as others did. It’s a bit of a shame, but I’m glad I read it so I can discuss it with others.

  5. I finished reading Tangled Twosome by Meghan Quinn and decided not to continue with book 4 in the series. So I started reading John Grisham’s The Reckoning. I don’t often read mysteries and have never read Grisham but my husband chose and bought it for me so… 🙂

And I’ve been making more of an effort to read more Adut Fantasy, and oh my, Middlegame sounds BRILLIANT. I never would have picked that book up on my own, but after reading the synopsis and your thoughts on it, I feel like I MUST give it a try!
