Bookish Updates: My Current Reading & Life Update [7/12/17]

Copia de Copia de Copia de Copia de SPRINGTIME (1)

This Bookish Update is something different than usual, because this will only be to keep you updated on what is happening with my life right now and I’ll also tell you where I’m with my current reading.

This week has been some intense for me, first I’ve been with a lot of work and family stuffs for which I feel that I haven’t been as focused with the blog as always, that makes me feel a little guilty, because I don’t want to disappoint you, but at the same time I know that you all are the most understanding people on the planet so I know you feel me.

On the other hand, as most of you know, this week we found out about the new conditions of NetGalley and Goodreads, which will directly affect bloggers and international authors, and this has been so disappointed and maybe sounds silly to you but really every time I tried to read, I thought about this and it made me feel sad, I can’t help it, I have a super sensitive Hufflepuff heart so this has hurt me a lot.

Anyway, I feel much better now. I’ve been thinking that although all this continues in this way we must face it in a positive way, working even harder for what we want, which is simply to be part of this community, having the same rights as anyone.
I’ve seen many silly confrontations on Twitter, something like US Bloggers VS Intl Bloggers, and I think it is absurd, there is no such thing guys, we all love the same thing and we must stay together. I personally have always found a lot of support in this community, and as an Intl Blogger, I think it is not right to put everyone in the same bag, you know?, I’ve seen alot of US bloggers talking about this problem, supporting us and expressing their love to us, so I think starting a war between us, for a subject that is only in the publishers and the pages owners hands, doesn’t make sense. From here, from my small place in the world, I’ll always prioritize the union and the support beetween us.

Moving on to my current reading, I’ve only read 1 book this week and that book is The Rose Society (The Young Elite #2) by Marie Lu, which I haven’t yet finished, but I’m loving it, it’s so incredible !, I don’t know why it took me so long to decide to read this trilogy, so far it only gets better and better, I think I’ve about 50 pages left, so I think I may be finishing it today and uploading my review tomorrow so everyone can know my thoughts about it.

I know that this is probably the most random post ever, I felt that I wanted you to know everything that was happening right now with me and how all this has made me feel overwhelmed and anxious. But I’m already feeling much better and I want to thank you as always for the support, I love you guys and I only wish you the best.
I hope that from next week everything will return to normal I have many incredible books that I want to read and I’m super excited about it !.

Don’t forget that you can add me on Twitter or Goodreads so that we can be more connected every day. I hope you have a beautiful day and see you tomorrow with a new review!

  1. I’m glad you’re feeling better too!

With everything going on with Goodreads and NetGalley, I actually found myself feeling less excited and just a bit guilty when I had an ARC arrive in the mail and I learned that I had won my first Goodreads Giveaway in over four years. I’m really excited to get to read the book, and I mean, it has been nearly 4.5 years since I won anything from them (even as a US blogger), but it makes me think of all the changes about to happen and it sucks.

  3. I’m sorry that things are happening on goodreads and netgalley for international readers. 😮 I guess I have been under a rock or something??? I don’t know what’s happening but I hope it gets better ! I live in the US. Now i feel like a clueless newb.

I haven’t really read much on Twitter either I just read my messages and post my blog posts on there and then get off of Twitter. I suppose that’s good since it sounds like people aren’t getting along, how sad. 😢

I’m glad you’re feeling better and you’re enjoying that book. It sounds interesting too. Just the name of it is fascinating. I can’t wait to read your review.

Have a good one hon! 😉

  4. I mailed netgalley about it, but received their “standard reply” that you quoted on your last post. The one citing “international publishing rights, blah, blah, blah.” I was hoping for a more ‘personal’ response but shouldn’t have been so *naive*, ahem. Multinational corporations do run the world, after all… 😉 All we can do is keep on keepin’ on! Keep reading and keep blogging:) Best wishes from an Englishman in Japan.

  5. I just discovered Marie Lu’s writing with Warcross! I definitely want more of her books now, haha.

Also, with the whole NG/GR thing and the “war” starting, it’s just stupid. Honestly.
But what’s even more stupid and ridiculous – in my opinion – are the bloggers going “well, I think I might stop blogging because of this.” because that just feels like they’re only in it for the benefits of free books / earcs. [One post even said exactly that and I got so pissed..]
Honestly, even though we all kind of rely on GR and NG, it’s not like we don’t have a huge TBR mountain at home as well. I say, let’s just focus on that as long as we barely have a shot at galleys and battle that fight while we have the chance to.
[Look at me, staying all positive!]

I hope you’re feeling better and continue to feel better!
