Cinderella goes to the con in this fandom-fueled twist on the classic fairy tale.
Part romance, part love letter to nerd culture, and all totally adorbs, Geekerella is a fairy tale for anyone who believes in the magic of fandom. Geek girl Elle Wittimer lives and breathes Starfield, the classic sci-fi series she grew up watching with her late father. So when she sees a cosplay contest for a new Starfield movie, she has to enter. The prize? An invitation to the ExcelsiCon Cosplay Ball, and a meet-and-greet with the actor slated to play Federation Prince Carmindor in the reboot. With savings from her gig at the Magic Pumpkin food truck (and her dad’s old costume), Elle’s determined to win…unless her stepsisters get there first.
Teen actor Darien Freeman used to live for cons—before he was famous. Now they’re nothing but autographs and awkward meet-and-greets. Playing Carmindor is all he’s ever wanted, but the Starfield fandom has written him off as just another dumb heartthrob. As ExcelsiCon draws near, Darien feels more and more like a fake—until he meets a girl who shows him otherwise.
“Look to the stars. Aim. Ignite.”
OH guys, what a sweet reading! .I love when these things happen to me, I felt that I would love this book and it was so !, YAY !
This is a Cinderella re-telling , which is my favorite fairy tale, so I was very excited about it, but when I heard it was about a girl who was into a fandom of a sci-fi series, then I thought Doctor Who immediately and I knew that it would make me remember to it, so I was even more and more excited, so I decided to read it as soon as possible
The plot follows Danielle who is a girl who is trapped in a house with her stepmother and her stepsisters who treat her in a very contemptuous and unpleasant way. She’s very fan of this television show called Starfield, which is a legendary show well known and beloved, (also has a high significance for her since it was the show they enjoyed with her father when he still lived),is about to premiere a movie of that show, and this is something for which she is super excited about , but at the same time she’s nervous because she doesn’t know who will interpret the main character. And this is where our other main character Darien comes in. He’s a very well-known actor for his role in a series called Seside Cove, so he’s chosen to play the main role in the Starfield movie, and this doesn’t make Elle happy as she thinks he’s just a cute boy who knows nothing about the show, but she’s actually wrong about that.
Then there is this important event called ExcelsiCon Cosplay Ball where both think to attend to and the most adorable texts of the universe begin to happen and from here the magic begins.
I love this book, it’s so fun and adorable, I’ve also felt super emotional, especially for Elle and her story with her father and everything that she has to happen with her awful stepmother, made me very angry, because she feels so alone and without anyone who supports her and no longer has her father, that was super sad.
The plot will seem familiar, is the classic Cinderella story with a lot of fandom stuffs and love that!, is a curious and witty combination, you have a lot of fun in this book, there friendship and really very sweet scenes. Also I think there are things that the author has changed to give her personal touch and separate this one from the original fairy tale and has been the best ever
This, in fact, has many references to Doctor Who and I was like literally crazy!, so excited about it. I find it funny and so real, when you meet another person and this one doesn’t know anything about the series you love, then you have to tell everything and you think it will take years to do it and then these other people who don’t follow the show and they think that it’s not worth doing it and those who just follow the show because it’s like “fashionable” to do it, and this is all so real, I think we all here have been through with these kind of things, the struggless never ends lol.
Darien is a great character too, he lives a completely different kind of life to Elle’s .He’s a television star so he has to fight with what that means, but you can see how much he wants to be just a normal guy, you know, and it’s hard for him because everyone think that he will not play a good role or that he will not be able to do it. Without a doubt my favorite part of Darien is to see him struggling to keep being who he really is and the messages with Elle are gold, sooooo sweet.
The writing style is very beautiful, I think it’s magical and it makes you dream and fun and it will make you feel emotional and it will arrive without doubts to your heart, or that’s I hope because it has arrived at mine, besides it’s a light and fast reading !
I recommend it 100% even if you have doubts you should try it, it is such a sweet and fun trip, if you like re-tellings and fandom things, you’ll love this!
I don’t do contemporaries but I make an exception for this book!
